“So, what are you thinking about?”
-“How I am going to take over the world.”
“I sincerely hope you are joking?” I say seriously.
-“Why would I be joking? Isn’t it a noble goal? I’m thinking about how I could get into power, besides a Presidential campaign.”
He really is serious! I think to myself. How am I going to redirect this conversation so I can stop talking about this nonsense? I look at him and decide to a really old conversation topic.

“How about that weather, eh? Too hot for this time of year and not nearly enough precipitation. I would love some cold weather with a little bit of sun. How about you?” I avoid his gaze, too afraid he is irritated. Judging by the sound of his voice, he is.

-“You really don’t take me seriously do you? I meant what I said and I want your help. Now, think with me, how can I get in a position of power?” He looks to be balancing on the verge of angry and I have to choose my words carefully to get out of this conversation.

“Why would you want my help with this? If you want to have power over the world, don’t you think you are better off alone? You never know if you can trust anyone not to betray you, let alone me.” That wasn’t a smart remark. “Not that I was planning to betray you of course!” I add, just in time. He seems to calm down after that.

-“Maybe you are right. But it doesn’t hurt to brainstorm with me, does it? You would only be helping me with the initial startup, of course you can’t be held accountable, if that’s what you’re afraid of.” For a moment he looks at me with challenging eyes.

-“And when I do come into power, I could do you a solid for helping me. You must have dreams and wishes; I might be able to fulfill them when the time comes.” The most frustrating thing about this, he really gets me thinking about it. I hate it, but I do have dreams. A little bit more room and freedom does sound appealing. It does feel like my future is set in stone, and I don’t want that, but to help someone achieving world domination?
“What are you planning to do when you achieve world domination? Because if you are planning a lot of violence, I don’t want any part in it!” He looks at me with evil eyes.

-“It can’t happen without any violence, but I wasn’t planning to murder the whole world. What good is world domination if there isn’t anyone left to dominate? That would be just stupid!” He utters a mean little laugh. “Speaking about dominance, have you figured out yet how I’m going to get into power?” He looks at me expectantly. I’m trying to think straight but I’m getting dizzy from all the thoughts. I still don’t know what to think of it and even if I want to help him or not. On the one hand it does sound appealing to fulfill some lifelong dreams, on the other hand it’s the fate of the world in my hands, at least it feels that way. What is the smart thing to do?

Just as I’m about to speak my mind, we both hear the sound of keys in the door. Completely distracted we both run to the door. Neatly on our spots as soon as the door opens and our owner steps in to the house.

“Hello Kitty-cat! Did you sleep well today? And Max, have you been a good boy today, and kept all my stuff in one piece?” I start wagging my tail and bark a confirmation. The owner bends down and pets both of us on the head. We happily follow him to the kitchen and after a treat I forget the whole conversation with Kitty.
